Overview

The Cost Dashboard is the main view in Cost Optix. It aggregates billing data from all your connected cloud accounts and surfaces it as structured, actionable information — without requiring you to dig through provider portals or export CSVs. The dashboard is account-scoped: use the account switcher in the top navigation to switch between connected accounts. All panels, charts, and metrics update to reflect the selected account and date range.

Date Range

Every section of the dashboard is driven by the selected date range. Click Change Dates in the top-right to open the date picker. Available presets include:
  • Last 7 days
  • Last 30 days
  • This month / Last month
  • Last 3 months / Last 6 months
  • Custom range
The header shows both the formatted date range and the human-readable duration (e.g. 6 months, 2 months + 1 partial). Partial months — where the range starts or ends mid-month — are flagged so you know the figures aren’t full-month totals.
Cloud providers have billing lag: today’s spend may not appear for 24–72 hours depending on the provider. This is a provider constraint, not a Cost Optix limitation.

Executive Summary

The Executive Summary is a KPI panel at the top of the dashboard. It shows the health of the current billing month at a glance.
MetricWhat it shows
Month-to-Date SpendTotal amortised cost for the current billing month so far
vs Last MonthDollar and percentage change versus last month’s final total
Month-End ForecastProjected total cost if current patterns hold
Cost Ceiling (95%)Risk-adjusted worst-case month-end using Value at Risk modelling
Projected at Current RateLinear burn-rate extrapolation for the remaining days
Services HealthCount of Critical / Watch / Healthy services
Budget Utilisation% of budget consumed (shown when a budget is configured)

Amortised Cost

Cost Optix uses amortised cost by default. Upfront reservation and commitment payments are spread evenly across the commitment period rather than recorded as a spike on the purchase date. This keeps month-over-month comparisons meaningful and prevents false anomalies on reservation purchase days.

Forecast Methods

The dashboard selects the most accurate forecast method available:
  • Risk-Adjusted (VaR 95%) — used when sufficient historical data exists. Shows both a worst-case cost ceiling and a linear projection so you can see the range of likely outcomes.
  • Burn-Rate Projection — used when historical data is limited. Calculates daily spend so far and extrapolates to month end.
  • API Forecast — used for providers that supply native forecast data.

A line chart showing individual service costs over time. Services are plotted as separate lines, making it easy to see which ones are growing, stable, or declining.
  • Toggle individual services on or off using the checkbox controls
  • Use Select All / Clear All to manage visibility
  • Click View Details to open the full-screen chart modal
  • Click Explore Costs to navigate to the detailed cost breakdown page
Up to 15 services are shown in the toggle controls. All services appear in the chart when “Select All” is active.

Service Health

Services are automatically categorised based on their month-over-month cost change and anomaly status:
CategoryCriteria
CriticalAnomaly detected, or cost spike above the configured critical threshold
WatchSignificant cost change above the configured watch threshold, or anomaly with declining cost
SavingsCost reduction beyond the configured savings threshold
HealthyNormal cost behaviour — stable or minor expected changes
Thresholds are configurable via the ⚙️ Configure button in the Executive Summary. Each service card shows:
  • Service name and monthly cost
  • Month-over-month change with direction indicator
  • Health reason (e.g. “Anomaly detected with 85% cost spike”)
  • View resources button to drill into individual resources for that service

Resource Drill-Down

Click View resources on any service to open the resource-level breakdown. This shows the individual resources driving the service cost, their month-over-month change, and resource metadata (resource group, location, type).

Actionable Insights

The dashboard generates up to five prioritised insights based on current spending patterns. Insights are triggered by conditions such as:
  • High burn rate — projected month-end is significantly above expected
  • Rapid service growth — a service is up more than 40% month-over-month
  • Potential savings — services showing declining usage or significant cost reductions
  • Multiple anomalies — three or more services with detected anomalies
  • Spend concentration — a single service represents more than 30% of total spend
Each insight includes a cost impact estimate and a direct action button linking to the relevant section of the platform.

Monthly Resource Comparison

The resource comparison view shows which individual resources increased, decreased, appeared as new, or were deleted between two billing months. For each resource:
  • Current month cost and previous month cost
  • Absolute change in dollars
  • Percentage change
  • Share of total month-over-month delta
  • Days active in each period
  • Resource metadata (group, location, type)
Results are paginated and can be filtered by category: All, Increases, Decreases, New, or Deleted. Sorting is available by absolute change, percentage change, current cost, or resource name.

Provider News

The dashboard surfaces relevant billing and service announcements from your connected cloud providers. Announcements are shown inline and can be dismissed individually.

Anomaly Indicators

Detected anomalies are surfaced directly in the dashboard as service-level flags. An anomaly indicator on a service card means the service’s spend deviated significantly from its statistical baseline on at least one day in the selected range. Click the anomaly indicator to navigate to the Anomaly Detection page for full details, including severity, deviation percentage, and workflow status. See Anomaly Detection for how detection works and how to manage anomaly workflow states.

Refreshing Data

Click Refresh in the top-right to pull the latest data for the selected account and date range. The account name and provider are shown in the account status bar during and after load. Cost data is cached on first load. The refresh button bypasses the cache and fetches directly from the underlying data store.

Daily Spend

Day-by-day cost breakdown with DoD change, trend analysis, and service-level sparklines.

Anomaly Detection

Statistical spike detection with workflow management and webhook alerts.

Budgets

Set monthly budgets and receive alerts when thresholds are crossed.

Multi-Account Dashboard
